Purple Shampoo • L'oréal Professionnel Expert Silver Shampoo

For anyone like myself who has blonde hair whether it be natural, highlighted or colour treated you shall know the importance of keeping your colour bright, shiny and healthy, which to be fair (excuse the pun) is hard to do unless you use the right products to keep your blonde hair looking its best. I am constantly looking to find good haircare as I love hair products. Its not just a case of 'washing' your hair any more, its all the added benefits that we want from our products now also.

How Purple Shampoo Works!
Purple shampoo is designed for both women and men with blonde/silver/grey/white hair and as the names states it is a purple coloured shampoo that not only keeps hair looking clean, but it has a special purpose that other shampoos don’t. It helps to keep us blondes the blonde colour we like. It is recommended for natural blondes, colour treated or blonde highlights.

After going to the hair salon my newly blonde hair always looks bright and vibrant but as time passes it dulls and can turn yellow or brassy if not careful. Hate that. When you look at a colour spectrum wheel, purple and yellow are at the opposite ends of the colour spectrum. When you wash your hair with purple shampoo your hair absorbs a small amount of the purple pigment. Since they are opposites, the purple neutralises the brassy yellow, restoring your hair to its former beautiful colour. Purple shampoo is the cure for all of your brassy hair troubles - I for one salute it!

Purple shampoo is designed to be used alongside your regular shampoo and not used daily. Only use 1-2 times a week to see the real benefits and its best not leave it in your hair for more than 5 minutes, as too much of the pigment may be absorbed leaving your hair with a purple or grey tinge. This is fine if you like that purple tinge look but each person shall be different so just experiment with them.

L'oréal Professionnel Silver Shampoo - "L'oreal Professional Série Expert Silver shampoo gives clarity and shine which gives your hair a healthy look and feel. With the specific anti-yellow action Silver shampoo its to be used for reducing unwanted yellow tones of pre-lightened, tinted blonde hair or highlights"

L'oréal Professionnel Série Expert Silver Shampoo
My hair is naturally fair and blonde and I have ash blonde highlights when I visit the salon. I have tried many purple shampoos but WOW, this stuff works like none other I have ever tried; its Amazing! I have stayed very loyal to Aveda Blue Malva shampoo for many many years now as it's very gentle on the hair and scalp and effective but the L'oreal Professional is probably three times more concentrated where Aveda is very gentle. After using L'oreal my hair actually looks the same as when my hairdresser has finished toning my hair, even months after a salon visit. This is pretty impressive stuff and every blondes dream, so you need this in your bathroom!

The results below after one wash on wet and dry hair ...

Wet Hair Results - L'oréal Professionnel Série Expert Silver Shampoo 250ml
You can see above how noticeable the ash tones are already after shampooing onto wet hair. I was able to comb straight through without any tugging on my hair at all.

Dry Hair Results - L'oréal Professionnel Série Expert Silver Shampoo 250ml
So, is it 'Worth it?'
YES YES YES! You can instantly see how toned down my hair looks with its beige tone rather than a yellow tone and has left my hair feeling very soft, shiny and a shimmering blonde colour. It smoothed down the hair fibres making the condition of my hair look immediately a lot healthier which is important if you are blonde. I was so impressed with the results as its a great way to help preserve your hair colour and make in-between salon visits more bearable when you hair gets to that few weeks until your next hair due date when it can look really dull.

WARNING! This shampoo is highly concentrated so use only a small amount, the size of a €1/£1 coin should suffice. Do not leave on the hair for any more than 5 mins maximum as it may have the tendency to turn your hair purple as well as your hands so wash them immediately after use! I rinsed this out of my hair almost straight away after massaging.

I personally wouldn't use this shampoo straight onto dry hair being as it's so concentrated, as your hair shall grab at the pigment in uneven places (kind of like how self tan grabs at dry patches) which may cause purple streaks rather than toning your hair colour.

MY TOP TIPS!
After using any purple shampoo be sure to use a good hydrating conditioner as this process can be very drying to the hair, starving your hair of it's moisture that it needs for bounce and shine. As like normal shampoo, purple shampoos are not a one-type-fits-all product; You must find the product that best suits your personal needs and hair type but I highly recommend you give this one a go if you are a fan of keeping your blonde hair blonde.
If you have bonded hair extensions then apply the purple shampoo over the top of your normal shampoo as this shall safe guard the hair from absorbing too much purple but still brighten and tone your hair. It works a treat!

  6. Hi, I've got white hair although I'm still young (kind of :) but I decided not to dye my hair anymore and leave it white. It's kinda cool, but there is still a lock of hair that looks yellow. I've tryed some other shampoos, but nothing! Do you think with this one will dissapear? I'm kinda desperate because I want all my hair white and shiny, I hate this yellow thing. Thanks so much!!

    1. Hi! I totally sympathise as hate when my blonde hair can look yellow! Your hair sounds lovely, especially if you don't need to colour it & definitely think you should give this a go as its the strongest formula that I have tried as the dye is VERY concentrated to eradicate any yellow. It can go slightly purple if you leave it on any longer than 5 mins - which shows the strength of this stuff! It shall indeed give you a shiny, silvery look to your white hair. Its also really reasonable priced too!!! Let me know and good luck! K xx

    1. Hi!
With any purple shampoo you only use it once or twice a week. If you use it more you shall not see any difference in the tome of your hair and it may become dry as after using a purple shampoo you just use a hydrating conditioner to put moisture back into your hair.
      Hope this helps :-) K x

  8. i re bleached my hair to lift it lighter and no matter what im left with very light yellow hair, i used loads of this silver shampoo and it did nothing, its still yellowi think it
probably works best after its been toned properly so i just ordered a wella colour charm t18 which will take a few weeks to come, in the mean time csn i try this shampoo on dry hair, because it just isnt doing anything for me, thanks

    1. That odd but I think you are right and having it re toned shall give you a better base shade to keep silver and not yellow.
You may need to try more ash blonde shades of colour and not bleach blonde as that can tend to go very yellow.
Its hard being a blonde isnt it!! Good luck anyhow! K xx

  9. I love the color it gave your hair I def need to try this. But does it work better when you put the purple shampoo on dry hair or when you put it on wet hair?

    1. Hi & Thank you! I would say apply to wet hair especially when using this particular shampoo as the pigment is very strong and may go patchy on dry hair, whereas on wet hair it shall be dispersed more evenly. Just leave it on wet hair a little longer if you want a stronger tint - just be warned it can make your hair go purple if left too long! Hope this helps ;=)

  10. I have dark brown hair trying to lighten up by blending the roots and adding medium size streaks of a golden blond, light blond and streaks as close to white as I can get them. I love the way the streaks turned out as far as some medium and some smaller all over, but some have a slight orange tint and some have a slight red tint and others are a little yellow. I did use the wella toner, left on for only 15min because someone at sally's stressed no longer than 10min or would turn gray. After I have used the purple shampoo and conditioner I still have a mixture of the brassy tones. What would you suggest I use to help tone down those other shades? A blue shampoo?
    Thanks for your advice,
    Rachel

    1. Hi Rachel - I would always recommend a purple shampoo to get rid of brassy tones as a high strength one shall really make a difference to blondes especially. They work like a toner but they are not as concentrated so they are ideal to use once a week - just follow up with a really good hydrating conditioner as they can be drying on the hair. I highly recommend this one as sound alike you really need to to tone well. Let me know if you do & if it helps.
