Following on from my last post about the incredible ZIIP Halo—and my total adoration for the two beauty devices that have genuinely earned their place in my routine—I wanted to talk about the other half of that duo: the CurrentBody LED mask.

So the fact that two devices have not only stayed in rotation but actually made a visible difference to my skin feels worth writing about. In short, the ZIIP sculpts and tones; the LED brings clarity, calm and that elusive “lit from within” look. Together, they’ve become the most reliable tools in my bathroom— effective, and far more impactful than I expected. Today, it’s time to give the LED its proper moment.

I’ve used this mask for many months now—long enough for the novelty to wear off yet long enough to decide whether it’s a gimmick or a genuine keeper. And like the ZIIP Halo (the other device that’s earned its permanent spot), the CurrentBody LED Mask hasn’t left my weekly line-up. In fact, together, they’re what I credit for the most noticeable improvements in my skin this past year, especially in what has been a turbulent year personally and we all know stress shows itself in our skin.

For transparency, the device was initially sent to me in PR, but that guarantees absolutely nothing—I’m a genuine fan and now customer of the brand, and my enthusiasm comes from long-term use, not a freebie.

What It Is — and Why It Works

The CurrentBody LED mask (series 1) is a flexible, silicone red-light therapy device designed to boost collagen, improve texture, and soften fine lines. You’ve most definitely probably seen it—white, glossy, slightly sci-fi—and perhaps grouped as 'another celebrity-approved contraption' with more hype than substance. There are many brands of them with the ability to do many things. I have only tried two brands and Current Body has been the one that I have stuck with.

But LED, when done properly, is one of the few at-home treatments with solid science behind it. Red light encourages collagen synthesis and helps support the skin’s healing processes. Near-infrared light works a bit deeper, addressing tone, firmness and overall skin vitality. None of this is instant or dramatic, it’s more like regular exercise: small improvements that start to reveal themselves only when you realise you look better.

It is worth mentioning that I have the original Series 1 model but there is now a Series 2 version which shall of course now be on my Wishlist to upgrade to. It has extra LED bulbs in an improved layout and an added chin strap for better, full-face light coverage.

How an LED Mask Fits Into Your Routine

The biggest advantage of this mask is its ease. You pop it on, press a button, and ten minutes later it's done—no faffing, no apps, no complicated sequences and most importably, it's genuinely comfortable too. Unlike some other rigid LED masks, this one is soft and flexible, so it sits flush to the face and doesn’t weigh a ton. It charges by USB and automatically switches off after 10 minutes, which is the full treatment time. Inside the box you also get some eye inserts to make reading, scrolling, or watching TV with your device on even easier, but personally I find it fine without.

I tend to use it 3/4 times a week, alternating it with my Ziip Halo, or using it at opposite ends of the day, but mostly again in the mornings because that works best for me, whilst I look at emails or have a quick scroll. It’s just become my own little morning 'getting ready' ritual. I use it on a clean skin, before I apply all of my skincare. I think there are gels and serums that Current Body sell to make the effects even better but I am yet to try those.

What I’ve Noticed After Months of Use

I definitely think that consistent use of LED is subtle but very noticeable once you’ve stuck with it. My skin tone looks more even and is much less reactive, especially as my hormones are up and down all the time at this stage of my life. My cheeks just look 'happier'. My fine lines, especially around the eyes, look softened—not erased, but eased in a way that makes makeup sit better and skin look fresher. There’s also a "healthier” quality, the kind you only notice when you stop using something and realise how much it was doing. Like I mentioned in my previous post, I noticed when I started filming content again after a long break.

I think having now combined it with the ZIIP Halo, the improvements have been even more noticeable. The ZIIP Halo gives definition and tone; the LED gives radiance and texture. They complement each other so well and are both very different treatments to do physically which I like, as stops it from becoming a chore.

Just to make it clear on what separates both skin devices, Micro-current and Nano-current facial masks like the ZIIP use electrical currents, while LED masks use light. Micro-current stimulates facial muscles to help lift and tone the face, whereas Nano-current works at a more subtle, cellular level to support skin repair and firmness without muscle contraction. LED masks emit specific wavelengths of light that penetrate the skin to boost collagen, calm inflammation, or treat acne. In short, microcurrent and nanocurrent act through electrical stimulation, while LED masks improve the skin through light-based therapy. Both very different in what they are designed to do; hence why I use both, but you may just want to focus on one device that is targeted towards your needs.

Is It Worth It?

LED masks aren’t cheap, and this one is no exception. Like I have said many time before, you have to be willing to use it consistently and see it as skincare, like cleansing or applying a moisturiser, not a one-off miracle machine. But - if you want an at-home treatment that genuinely supports long-term skin health—it’s one of the best beauty investments to make, as many dermatologists and beauty editors attest to also. Plus it's something that attributes to making you feel good, having that self care time out is very much needed, more than ever in today's stressful world.

No device replaces good skincare. It doesn’t replace clinic treatments, but it does bridge the gap perfectly. And for me, the fact that I’ve kept using it long after the initial excitement would normally wear off… that says more than anything because I see it working.

Final Thoughts

The CurrentBody LED Mask is of course not essential, but it is excellent. It’s the kind of device that is reliably effective. It gives me better skin days, boosts my confidence, and pairs seamlessly with the ZIIP Halo to deliver results I can see both in the mirror and on camera.

Of course, there are plenty of LED masks on the market now, each promising smoother, brighter, better skin. I haven’t tried every single one —but CurrentBody’s remains one of the most highly regarded, both by professionals and by people who actually buy and use these things long-term. This review isn’t a comparison of every device out there; it’s simply my experience with the one that has earned its place in my routine, and in a world full of flashy devices that gather dust, this one genuinely earns its keep.

CurrentBody actually have an entire arsenal of devices, including masks for the neck area, so it’s well worth a browse if beauty tech interests you. They’ve even launched a new LED Hair Growth Helmet, which has shot straight to the top of my wishlist as well as the Series 2 LED Mask now of course. I’ve heard genuinely impressive things about results of the Hair growth Helmet, and I’d certainly make an ideal test case. It is undeniably pricey, though—very much a “start saving now” situation!

These two—the CurrentBody LED Mask and the ZIIP Halo (full review here) —are the reason I feel comfortable and confident in my skin at 40+. They’ve made enough difference that I haven’t felt the urgent pull toward in-clinic treatments I once considered inevitable.
