The Re-make of a Classic - good idea, bad idea? You can't get any more classic than Chanel No5, the ultimate iconic symbol of luxury. Originally created in 1921 by Gabrielle Chanel, No5 has since become more than just a fragrance.

If you did not already know, Chanel have most recently launched No5 L'Eau, a modern, fresh and vibrant take on the Classic Chanel No5, to be the No5 of today. The face of this campaign is 16 year old Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis who has been an ambassador for Chanel for many years, so Lily now follows in her mums footsteps, to capture a younger audience. The No1 selling fragrance in the world (yes the world!) has been given a fresh, citrus, modernised twist. For those who like something a little fresher and less heavy, then this shall most surely be your new favourite, where the original No5 shall still as always, be loved my millions.

Being a huge Chanel Fragrance lover myself, as soon as I heard the news I knew I had to smell it and to no surprise, I fell in love with it. Hence I bought the 100ml size whilst at T5 Heathrow Airport. Seeing as Chanel is such a beauty Icon (and the bottle is sooooo pretttttty) it had to have a slot on my blog. Those of you who know me or follow me shall know just how much of a Chanel fan I am. Their beauty lines, make-up, clothing, handbags, accessories .... I am a true fan and addict.

Lets talk about the actual scent....
No5 L'Eau has been in development for a few years by Olivier Polge, Chanel's in house perfumer with the idea to freshen up and modernise the scent so that it would appeal to a younger audience. The original notes are still there, just freshened up and lightened a little with the addition of the citrus notes.

Top Notes: Lemon, Neroli, Madarin, Orange, giving a real citrus twist.
Heart Notes: Rose, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang.
Base Notes: Cedar, White Musk.

It has been made as an Eau de Toilette as opposed to an Eau de Parfum to keep it light and the spray bottle makes it easy to apply all over the body.

The Packaging: The outer clean, crisp, white box is still as classic and simple as the original with the 3-D overlay really adding to the experience of this new scent. Thankfully the bottle has kept that classic Chanel design (hurrah!) with a beveled glass that looks like crystal oozes with elegance yet it is very simple. I adore the bottle as it adds to the whole luxury feel of a Chanel fragrance and I just love Chanel packaging in general.

"You Know Me and You Don't" - the quote from the Chanel campaign; exactly what Chanel No5 L'Eau is saying to us!

My thoughts ...

Fragrance is such a personal thing so we all have our own opinion when it comes to the original No5 and I think in truth, it is indeed an acquired taste with most of us associating it with being an 'older persons' scent. For me this is mainly due the fact that when I was growing up my mum favoured this type of heavy, luxury scent so I am taken back to my childhood when I smell it. It is kind of like being an adult and feeling like you have stolen your mums perfume, because lets face it, we are all guilty of it! I have though taken after her in the respect that I love stronger scents as I am not much of a florals or sweet fan when it comes to what fragrances I wear.

I for one am a massive fan of this newly formed scent. It still smells exactly like No5 but just much lighter and fresher, as they intended! So if you disliked the original for being too strong but liked the general scent, then you will really like this one.

I don't know what it is with Chanel fragrances but they instantly make you feel so sophisticated and chic all in one spritz like you take on a while new persona, they really do! Chanel Chance has always been my No1 Chanel scent as it was the fragrance I wore on my wedding day so it shall always be very special to me. I like that the two are very different from each other yet giving me that same, happy feel.

I have heard some feedback from fellow bloggers about this not lasting very long on the skin but I have to say, my skin seems to love it as it lasts really well on me. This is most definitely one of those scents that you have to go and try in person for yourself as our bodies all work definitely when it comes to fragrance but one to make a beeline for. Compared to the original No5, L'Eau is actually very reasonably priced being an EDT and it made sense to go for the 100ml as opposed to the 50ml as the price difference was minimal, making this a very good buy!
