For anyone like myself who has blonde hair whether it be natural, highlighted or colour treated you shall know the importance of keeping your colour bright, shiny and healthy, which to be fair (excuse the pun) is hard to do unless you use the right products to keep your blonde hair looking it's best. I am constantly looking to find good haircare as I love hair products. It's not just a case of 'washing' your hair any more, it's all the added benefits that we want from our products and I have found a winner

A quick science lesson on how Purple Shampoo works ...
Purple shampoo is designed for both women and men with blonde/silver/grey/white hair and as the names states, it is a purple coloured shampoo that not only keeps hair looking clean but it has a special purpose that other shampoos don’t. It helps to keep us blondes the blonde colour we like. It is recommended for natural blondes, colour treated or blonde highlights.

After going to the hair salon my newly blonde hair always looks bright and vibrant but as time passes it dulls and can turn yellow or brassy if not careful; hate that! When you look at a colour spectrum wheel, purple and yellow are at the opposite ends of the colour spectrum. When you wash your hair with purple shampoo your hair absorbs a small amount of the purple pigment. Since they are opposites, the purple neutralises the brassy yellow, restoring your hair to its former beautiful colour. Purple shampoo is the cure for all of your brassy hair troubles - I for one salute it!

Purple shampoo is designed to be used alongside your regular shampoo and not used daily. Only use 1-2 times a week to see the real benefits and its best not leave it in your hair for more than 5 minutes, as too much of the pigment may be absorbed leaving your hair with a purple or grey tinge. This is fine if you like that purple tinge look but each person shall be different so just experiment with them.

Well, I have found the answer. A shampoo that really really WORKS to keep your looking blonde and not yellow! ...

L'oréal Professionnel Silver Shampoo (here) - "L'oreal Professional Série Expert Silver shampoo gives clarity and shine which gives your hair a healthy look and feel. With the specific anti-yellow action Silver shampoo its to be used for reducing unwanted yellow tones of pre-lightened, tinted blonde hair or highlights"

L'oréal Professionnel Série Expert Silver Shampoo
My hair is naturally fair so I have ash blonde highlights when I go visit the salon. I have tried many purple shampoos but WOW, this one works like none other I have ever tried; it is amazing! I have stayed very loyal to Aveda Blue Malva shampoo for many many years now as it's very gentle on the hair and scalp and effective but the L'oreal Professional is probably three times more concentrated where Aveda is very gentle. After using L'oreal my hair actually looks the same as when my hairdresser has finished toning my hair, even months after a salon visit. This is pretty impressive stuff and every blondes dream, so you need this in your bathroom! The results below after one wash on wet and dry hair ...

Wet Hair Results - L'oréal Professionnel Série Expert Silver Shampoo 250ml
You can see above how noticeable the ash tones are already after shampooing onto wet hair. I was able to comb straight through without any tugging on my hair at all.

So, is it 'Worth it?' .... Hell YES!!!
You can instantly see how toned down my hair looks with its beige tone rather than a yellow tone and has left my hair feeling very soft, shiny and a shimmering blonde colour. It smoothed down the hair fibres making the condition of my hair look immediately a lot healthier which is important if you are blonde. I was so impressed with the results as its a great way to help preserve your hair colour and make in-between salon visits more bearable when you hair gets to that few weeks until your next hair due date when it can look really dull.

You can see my hair above and below in all lights to show that there is no sign of yellow!

Loreal Purple Silver shampoo
WARNING! This shampoo is highly concentrated so use only a small amount, the size of a €1/£1 coin should suffice. Do not leave on the hair for any more than 5 mins maximum as it may have the tendency to turn your hair purple as well as your hands so wash them immediately after use! I rinsed this out of my hair almost straight away after massaging.

I personally wouldn't use this shampoo straight onto dry hair being as it's so concentrated, as your hair shall grab at the pigment in uneven places (kind of like how self tan grabs at dry patches) which may cause purple streaks rather than toning your hair colour.

MY TOP TIPS!
After using any purple shampoo be sure to use a good hydrating conditioner as this process can be very drying to the hair, starving your hair of it's moisture that it needs for bounce and shine. As like normal shampoo, purple shampoos are not a one-type-fits-all product; You must find the product that best suits your personal needs and hair type but I highly recommend you give this one a go if you are a fan of keeping your blonde hair blonde. If you have bonded hair extensions then apply the purple shampoo over the top of your normal shampoo as this shall safe guard the hair from absorbing too much purple but still brighten and tone your hair. It works a treat!
